When Greene County visits Boone tonight in non-conference girls’ basketball, the Rams may be looking up at the Toreadors in more ways than one. The Rams may look up in admiration at the 7-1 Toreadors, ranked ninth in Class 4A for what they’ve accomplished. The Rams may also look up to Boone because they are TALL! Senior Claire Sandvig is listed at 6′ 3″. Sophomore Aliyah Graham at 5′ 11″, and reserves Lilly Lyons and Megan Osborn are listed at 6′ 2″ and 6′ 0″, respectively.
Greene County has no one on the team more than 5′ 10″ and that may be pushing it. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams are 3-6 overall and have lost five games in a row. Senior Laurin Lyons, daughter of the head coach, is the leading scorer for the Rams at 12.8 points per game.
The Toreadors feature a balanced scoring attack that averages 50 points per game. Senior Caitlynne Shadle leads the way at 14.1 points per game with Sandvig and freshman Emma Dighton each at 10 points per contest.
You can hear the action tonight on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys’ teams to follow.
