Guthrie Center SignIn his decades of service to the Guthrie Center community, Mayor Dennis Kunkle has seen his fair share of ups and downs. 2017 was no different. Kunkle gave Raccoon Valley Radio his highlights and challenges from this past year.

Kunkle lists his main highlight as the large water main project throughout the city, which will conclude next Spring. Kunkle also noted the positive impact Main Street’s purchase of the Williams Building could have downtown. Finally Kunkle took time to praise the city’s water quality and schools.

Kunkle views municipal infractions, nuisance orders, and keeping his small town populated and flourishing as main challenges to the community. Even with these challenges, Kunkle is confident the citizens of Guthrie Center will always rise to the occasion. “I think our community has always stuck together and tried to improve ourselves and stay progressive. I’m really proud with that. We’re not giving up.”

As far as 2018 is concerned, Kunkle mentioned the Park Board’s five year plan. This plan includes renovations to the restrooms and possible additions such as exercise stations and walking trails. To hear more from Kunkle, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
