Late muzzleloader deer hunting season just started in Iowa, along with the next round of bow hunting.
Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says the Iowa Department of Natural Resources requires at least a blaze orange vest for any gun hunting season, but it’s also a good idea to wear blaze orange while bow hunting as well. He talks about some other safety reminders when out hunting.
“The buddies that you’re hunting with, be aware of where they are at all times. That’s another good reason to wear as much blaze orange as possible. When you’re in, whether it’s the brush deer hunting or in tall cover pheasant hunting, it’s good have as much orange on as you can. If you kept that in mind, that would solve a lot of those hunting accidents.”
Towers reminds everyone the pheasant season goes until January 10th, and Canadian goose season is until January 1st for those north of Highway 30 and January 15th for those south of Highway 30.
Both late muzzleloader and bow hunting seasons end on January 10th. To hear more from Towers, listen to today’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
