The Perry girls basketball team is in a tough conference to be young and inexperienced in, but that is the reality that first year head coach Chris Morrow is facing as his Jayettes travel to Winterset tonight for a Raccoon River Conference showdown with Winterset. The Huskies are currently 2-1 in conference play and feature one of the best players in the conference in 6-3 center Madison Wauters. The junior is averaging double double numbers this season with 16 points and 10 rebounds a game. Perry won’t be as concerned with Wauters as they are with trying to discover who wants to compete for the entire 32 minutes.
“We’re going through a re-evaluation process right now,” stated Morrow. “Sometimes I feel like I want it more than the kids do and we can’t have that. We have to try and find girls who want to be competitive for the entire game and play hard consistently. We show flashes of it but it’s not there all the time. There will be an opportunity for kids to step and get some playing time.”
Perry enters play with a 1-8 mark and is led by sophomore Molly Lutmer. The young guard is averaging 12 points per game.
You can listen to the game on KDLS tonight at 6:00.
