Christmas presents will be handed out all over Guthrie County Monday morning. But ACGC Girls Basketball Head Coach Aaron Dose and the Lady Chargers will likely get two gifts after the holiday break. Junior Sierra O’Brien and Freshman Kylie Young will look to make their returns from injury next month.
O’Brien sustained a leg injury late in the first half against Panorama ten days ago. Thankfully for the Lady Chargers, O’Brien suffered a bone bruise, but no serious muscle damage. O’Brien, ACGC’s leading scorer with 10.5 points per game, will use the break to heal and prepare for the second half of the season.
Young started off the season with an elbow injury she sustained during the first junior varsity game. The timing of her injury makes it difficult as she hasn’t been able to practice much. Dose talked about her role this year following ACGC’s loss at Earlham last Thursday. “Maybe after Christmas break if everything goes well, that first game back, she could be playing. We’re not really sure where she fits in obviously. She’s got to practice hard and play hard.
The Lady Chargers will finish off 2017 at rival Coon Rapids-Bayard. You can catch that game on KKRF-2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network starting at 6 pm. Pre-game coverage from Coon Rapids begins at 5:45 on Thursday.
