Southeast Valley’s (Gowrie) girls’ basketball team averages 38 points a game, which is exactly what they scored in Jefferson on Monday night vs. Greene County in a 38-29 victory over the Rams on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. How they got there was a bit out of the ordinary. The Jaguars put up 16 points in the first 5-1/2 minutes of playing time and were on better than 80 point pace, while the Rams had just two points for the first 7:55 of the contest. The scoring pace slowed way down for SEV and it never got going for the Rams. Coach Dean Lyons’ team was within five points at intermission, 20-15, but fell behind by as many as 14 late in the game. SEV improved to 4-5 overall while the Rams fell to 3-5 and they’ve lost four in a row with games at Class 3A top 10 ranked Nevada and at 4A top 10 ranked Boone yet this week.
Mady Jaeschke scored 10 points for SEV, all in the second half. Laurin Lyons led Greene County with 10 points and Kassie Lamoureux added nine of a trio of three-point goals.
The Rams made just eight of 44 shots from the floor and had 22 turnovers. They went 10 of 18 from the foul line. The Jaguars were eight of 11 from the charity stripe and 13 of 48 overall with 17 turnovers.
