Jefferson Police BadgeWe have new information regarding the investigation by the Jefferson Police Department of a reported credit card skimmer at a local gas station.

Captain Heath Enns confirms that the skimmer was found on a fuel pump at Oly’s Corner on 208 West Lincoln Way. Enns says the device has Bluetooth capabilities. The suspect can be about one block away from the pumps to connect to the device and remove the names and card numbers that were stored. The device was found by Oly’s Corner staff and reported to the police department Monday morning at 9am. The pumps were last inspected on December 11th, which means the skimmer was installed sometime between the 11th and the 18th.

Enns says the device was sent to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation to obtain forensic evidence.

The skimmer is installed by opening the front of the gas pump and attaching the device. On the front of the pump is a “sealed” sticker. If that sticker is broken, you are to contact the manager of the business as well as the Jefferson Police Department on their non-emergency number at 386-2136. Pictures of the skimmer and a sealed pump can be found below.
