Stuart residents could see a column of smoke rise out of the southeast portion of town late Tuesday morning. The Stuart Fire Department was called out to a controlled burn on South 6th Street in a field behind Hometown Foods.
The burn was intended for crop land and the City’s natural waste area. However, the winds picked up and carried the fire all the way to Interstate 80. Stuart Fire Chief Mike Renslow tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a portion of the interstate was closed for a short time. There were no other reports of damage and there were no injuries. The fire has been contained.
