No one was injured after an overnight house fire broke the calm of Friday morning in Perry. The fire was contained quickly by the Perry and Dawson Volunteer Fire Departments.
Emergency crews responded to the fire just after 3 a.m. on the corner of Rawson and 1st streets, across from the Progressive Foundry. Officials say all occupants of the home were able to get out safely and unharmed. Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds said when firefighters arrived, there was smoke coming from the northwest corner of the residence, and flames coming from underneath the aluminum siding. The crews removed the siding, put out the fire, and ensured there was no additional fire inside. Hinds told Raccoon Valley Radio the cause of the fire is undetermined, but indications point to it being an electrical fire due to an overload. He added, it was likely the insulation was smoldering for some time before it caught fire. The house is the residence of Gabriel Reyes.
The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, and representatives from Alliant Energy assisted at the scene. The Red Cross also responded to tend to the needs of the residents.
