The first week of the high school wrestling season is in the books for the Greene County Rams and Coach Mark Sawhill’s team gained badly needed experience in three separate outings. The season started with a non-conference split of two dual meets in Van Meter on Tuesday. The Rams lost to the combined Van Meter/Earlham team, but won vs. Ogden. On Thursday, the home season began in Jefferson and the Rams lost both ends of a non-conference double-dual, falling to Winterset and Carroll. The team wrestled Saturday at the Dallas Center-Grimes Invitational, and tied with Nevada for last place among 15 teams.

Just five of last year’s regulars were in the lineup and the inexperienced showed. Greene County won just four matches in each of the dual meets they lost, and had just four place winners at DC-G with no one placing higher than fifth.  Garrett Tasler (113), Cayden Gerdes (138), and Clint Dennhardt (182) each placed fifth, while Bryce Hoyle (195) was seventh at DC-G.

The Rams have another home double-dual this Thursday, Dec. 7 vs. ADM and Gilbert starting at 5:30 p.m. Then, it’s the Ogden dual meet tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m.
