ADM Tigers

Multiple Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers wrestlers stood atop the podium in their first varsity tournament of the 2017-18 season. The Tigers had 12 wrestlers compete Saturday at the DCG Mustangs Invitational in Grimes, featuring wrestlers from 15 area schools. ADM had three first-place finishers, placing seventh in the team standings with 113 points. Ankeny Centennial won the team title with 214 points. Taking home top honors in their weight class was ADM’s Andrew Flora (113), Nolan Harsh (152) and Kade Sutton (220).

Flora, Class 2A No. 2 ranked wrestlers at 113 pounds, moved to 6-0 on the season with four victories Saturday. He registered pinfall victories in the first two rounds over Interstate 35’s Tyson Palmer (2:55) and West Marshall’s Cade Pfantz (1:20). Flora’s final two grapples ended in decision victories, including a 3-1 decision in the championship match against Prairie City Monroe’s Payton Drake.

Harsh, ranked No. 8 at 152 pounds, had similar results on his way to a tournament championship. He won by fall in the opening two rounds against Greene County’s Leo Marques (1:47) and Carroll’s Luke Woosley (3:07). Harsh clinched a spot in the finals with a major decision victory over Dallas Center-Grimes Luke Fistler. He closed out the tournament with a 4-2 decision win against Interstate 35’s Brayden Egli.

Sutton, who didn’t wrestle in ADM’s season opener Thursday, rattled off three straight wins to open the season as a tournament champion. He needed additional time to advance out of the quarterfinal round, outlasting Ankeny Centennial’s Lane Pruisner for a sudden victory, 5-3. He finished the tournament with a pair of decision victories, including a 9-4 result in the championship bout against Nevada’s Luke Durkop.

The season resumes Thursday for the ADM wrestling team as they travel to Jefferson for a nonconference triangular dual versus Greene County and Gilbert.
