Time is running short for members of the Perry community to volunteer for the “Bluejay Readers Equals Bluejay Leaders” program at Perry Elementary.
The reading program will be held tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., so potential volunteers have until then to let the school know they intend to take part. Elementary Principal Ned Menke says they are looking for around 100 volunteers to pair up with the third grade classes for the program. Menke adds, they do a similar program for other grades, but this event is a chance to get more students and community members involved.
“Every Thursday and Friday, we have a reading program where we have community members that come in, and it’s through this Everybody Wins Iowa program. They’re working with second and fourth-graders this year. This is a way to kind of reach our third-graders, and just to be a part of this read with a child volunteer day. I think this is going on really around the country, so hopefully it’s a way we can participate here in Perry, Iowa.”
Anyone interested in participating can register at the school, and Menke assures you the registration process is very simple. The program will run tomorrow from 8:30-10 a.m. For more information, call the elementary at 515-465-5656.
