Perry Elementary is looking to bring their third-graders and the community together with a special event at the beginning of December.
On December 1st, the school is hosting a read with a child volunteer day called “Bluejay Readers Equals Bluejay Leaders.” Principal Ned Menke says they are looking for around 100 volunteers to pair up with the third grade classes for the program. Activities will be provided through the United Way and Everybody Wins Iowa, which provides volunteer reading programs at the school for second and fourth-graders on Thursdays and Fridays. Menke felt getting the third-graders involved as well was something that would be beneficial for both the students and the volunteers.
“I think it’s going to be a lot of fun, and it’s a chance for community members to connect with our kids. And what a great thing for our third-graders to see some of our awesome people from our community. So if you would like to be a part of this, come up and you can register at the school. It’s a one-day deal, and hopefully you can help us make some positive impact with our students.”
The program will run from 8:30-10 a.m. on December 1st, and people can register all the way up to that date. For more information or to register, call the elementary school at 515-465-5656.
