The official start of the 2017-18 boys’ basketball season at Greene County High School is still a week away. Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams will host Gilbert in the middle school gym in Jefferson on Friday, Dec. 1 to start things off. That’s game two of a girl/boy doubleheader that can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The all-time leader scorer for a Jefferson-based boys’ basketball program is Trey Tucker and he graduated in May. The cupboard isn’t bare, however, from the 14-8 team of a season ago that finished second among nine teams in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

Junior Trey Hinote was a first team all-conference selection as a junior. Hinote can be found in a gym somewhere shooting the basketball at least once a day all year round. He was asked his thoughts about this Greene County team. “I feel we have more talent than last year, personally. Obviously, we lost a lot, but the pick up of Joe’s going to be nice (senior Joe Towers, a transfer from Paton-Churdan), and we return three starters (senior Wade Adcock, junior Lance Hughes, and Hinote), so that’s going to be good. Jordan Patterson, Ben Wilkens, and Ben Bravard off the bench will help us out, so that’ll be good.” Patterson, Wilkens, and Bravard, are all seniors.
