On Wednesday, two communities in Guthrie County completed recount elections as requested by candidates from city council races. The outcome of the elections did not change as a result of the recounts.
Current Guthrie Center City Council member Randy Nickel requested a recount for both the four-year terms and the two year term to fill a vacancy. After the four-year term recount Wednesday afternoon, Chuck Cleveland was credited with 115 votes, Carolyn Masters with 98, and Nickel with 84. Cleveland and Masters will remain the elected council members and will take office in January.
Jamaica’s recount also saw no change in the outcome. Current Jamaica City Council member Karen Onken requested the recount to clear up some confusion regarding a possible typo on the ballot. Onken, Randall Perkins, and H.D. Meinecke Jr. were confirmed as the three elected council members and will also begin their terms in January.
The Guthrie Center two-year vacancy recount will likely be scheduled early next week.
