None of the three Greene County High School Winter sports teams have had official action yet, but by the end of next week the wrestling, girls and boys basketball seasons will all be underway. The Greene County Activities Booster Club hosted a Winter Pep Rally on Tuesday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Games and other activities for students began the evening, and it ended with coaches and athletes talking about their upcoming seasons.
The girls’ basketball team opens on Monday, Nov. 27 in Ogden with JV and varsity games. Dean Lyons is the head coach. The home opener for the girls is Tuesday, Nov. 28 with Perry in the middle school gym.
The wrestlers begin on Nov. 28 in Van Meter vs. the combined Van Meter/Earlham team, as well as Ogden. The Rams host Carroll and Winterset on Nov. 30 in the middle school gym for the first home action of the season. Mark Sawhill is the head wrestling coach.
Chris Nelson is the boys’ head coach. The Rams open their season on Friday, Dec. 1 in Jefferson at the middle school gym by hosting Gilbert as part of a girl/boy doubleheader.
