Perry senior Johanna Diw signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play softball for DMACC. Diw is coming off back to back all conference performances including this past summer when she hit 454 with 13 homeruns and 40 RBI to go along with 16 stolen bases.
“DMACC just felt right,” smiled the senior in front of a large crowd of students and teachers at the Brady Library. “I took a visit and I like the facilities, the staff and the people there. I don’t know, it just kind of felt like home.”
Diw was not always interested in sports from the beginning. In fact, she considered herself more of a singer than an athlete when she was younger.
“Yeah, I owe a lot to my older sister Julie. I really didn’t enjoy sports when I was young but Julie always wanted to go the field with her and good off. She wanted to pitch to me all the time and one time she hit me with the pitch really hard. I was so afraid of the ball but after getting hit and realizing it didn’t hurt that much I started to like the sport and eventually fell in love with it.”
