Solid guard play and physicality propelled the Panorama Panthers girls basketball team to a 54-27 win over Gilbert last night in Panora. The Panthers opened up the game with a fourteen to two run and never looked back. By half time they had extended that lead to a 34-17 margin.
The Panthers defense proved stingy, allowing only 10 total points in the second half and smothering Gilbert dribblers all night long. When they were able to force turnovers, the Panthers transition offense flowed smoothly and took advantage of the openings it was given. Offensively, the story of the game for the Panthers was the stellar production they received from Bailey Beckman and Devyn Kemble.
The two guards combined for 36 of the Panthers 54 points and were critical in keeping Panoramas ball movement sharp and constant. Beckman lead all scorers with 20 points, giving the opposition fits with a combination of slashing drives and three point shooting.
With the season opener out of the way and the years first win under their belt, the 1-0 panthers Head to Cedar Rapids to face Springville this Saturday.
