Newton outscored Perry 44-15 over the final three quarters Tuesday night in defeating the Jayettes 61-28 in non conference girls basketball action. Newton led 17-13 after the first quarter but senior guard Randi Walters went on a tear to begin the second period hitting seven 3-point baskets on the night as the Cardinals quickly built a double digit lead and never looked back. Walters finished with a career high 31 points. Newton earns their first win of the season and improves to 1-2 while Perry falls to 1-1. The Jayettes will travel to Jefferson Tuesday for a game with Greene County.
