Greene County Elementary SchoolA project with the Greene County School District is in its final stages.

This past February, the Greene County School Board approved a $1.7 million contract to Badding Construction to add on four additional classrooms and a new main entrance to the elementary building. When the project began in the summer, there were several delays with subcontractors and inclement weather, which kept it from being completed by the time the school year started on August 23rd.DSCN7587

Principal Scott Johnson says the prekindergarten students started the school year at St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Jefferson and have been in their new classrooms since the end of October.

“It’s great to have them back in. Before, it wasn’t an ideal situation with a lot of transferring of students. But the kids and teachers made the best of it and did a great job. But they’re all happy to be in their new rooms now.”

“It’s like their own little wing of an area. They’ve got their own restrooms and classroom area right there. So it works out great for the pre-k kids, which have a little more time outside in the hallways doing different things and so it’s perfect for them.”

Johnson hopes to have the new main entrance opened by November 30th with the new parking area operational by December 4th.
