Seniors who still need to enroll for Medicare coverage for the coming year can still take advantage of the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), which is currently being offered at Dallas County Hospital.
Lou Hoger, a SHIIP Counselor for DCH, says the focus on the counselling he’s done so far has been on the part D drug plan. He says it can be difficult to navigate the prescription drug landscape, particularly because prices tend to change from year to year. The open enrollment period for Medicare will end on December 7th, and Hoger encourages people to make an appointment with a SHIIP counselor before time runs out. “We can help people make healthy choices — wise choices — as to Medicare supplements, Medicare pharmacy drug plans, and Medicare Advantage plans. And we can help them through that maze of options that are out there, that can be very, very confusing to many people.”
