The second night of a back-to-back saw the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers girls basketball team (0-2) run out of gas in the final quarter. The Tigers welcomed Dallas County neighbor Van Meter to town for a nonconference game heard on True Country K 107.9 and worldwide at raccoonvalleyradio.coma and the KKRF mobile app. ADM squandered a 16 point first half lead as Van Meter won their first game of the season, 48-44.
ADM scored the first eight points of the game and led 13-5 after the first quarter. The Tiger advantage was 23-17 at halftime, and they led 35-31 entering the fourth quarter. Trailing 35-34 early in the period, Van Meter grabbed their first lead after securing four offensive rebounds. The possession ended with a three-point make by Kelsey Roberts. The teams traded the lead four times after that, and the game’s only tie came with 1:05 left at 42. Van Meter closed the game on an 8-2 run fueled by eight free throws from Emily (six) and Kesley (2).
ADM head girls basketball coach Rick Dillinger saw one major difference in the outcome of the game. “A lot of it has to do with the inexperience of taking the ball to the basket.” Dillinger said, “There kids late would penetrate and penetrate and penetrate. We didn’t, and we need to (penetrate the lane).”
The loss drops ADM to 0-2 on the young season. The Tigers are off until Tuesday when they host the Pella Christian Eagles (1-0) in nonconference action.
