Grand Junction FieldThe Greene County School Board recently approved selling the softball field in Grand Junction back to the City of Grand Junction.

Following a public hearing held last month, the School Board approved the sale of the softball field for $1. Superintendent Tim Christensen says the field was originally given to the East Greene School District. Part of the agreement was that if it was operated as a park, then it could be transferred to another owner. Christensen notes that the City has wanted the field for quite some time.

“They’ve had a softball tournament in the past that they use that for and wanted to continue to use that. When it was a school facility, again alcoholic beverages could not be consumed on that property. And that’s part of the softball thing that the City wanted to have available. So giving it back, or selling it to them for $1 is something they wanted and it works out for both parties.”

This is the second time this school year that the Greene County School Board has relinquished properties to city entities. In September, the Board voted to discontinue the use of the Rippey gym and gave it over to the City of Rippey.
