For the first time in his coaching tenure at West Central Valley, head girls basketball coach Drew Stonewall has been with one class of athletes their entire high school career. Stonewall’s fourth season of practice began November 6 with two a days the whole first week of the preseason. Stonewall was a guest on this week’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page as we continue to preview the upcoming girl’s basketball season for the Wildcats.
Stonewall told Raccoon Valley Radio that four seniors came out for basketball this winter, and three are taking part in preseason practice. He adds Bailey Burris is recovering from a knee injury but has been showing up to practice. Last season’s leading scorer Grace Dupey is back for West Central Valley along with Taylor Beane and Kennedy Lose. Stonewall adds he’s enjoyed watching this group mature over the years. “It’s been fun to watch them grow and develop into good young people,” Stonewall said, “We don’t have a lot of girls out (for basketball), but they’re great kids, and they’re fun to be around, and they work hard. It makes my job a lot easier.”
The girl’s basketball season tips off for West Central Valley Tuesday, competing against Nodaway Valley in Stuart.
