A select number of schools are chosen each year to play Hall of Pride basketball scrimmages. Tomorrow night, the Greene County girls and boys will scrimmage at Kuemper Catholic in Carroll vs. the Knights. One of the requirements is that schools apply for the scrimmages, and the schools must have completed at least one Community Service Project to be eligible. Greene County high school students recently completed a leaf raking project that included more than 150 lawns being raked.

The Hall of Pride scrimmage does not count as a game on the season record, but will be played under game conditions with teams in school uniforms, registered officials, and fans paying admission. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.

The Greene County girls are coached by Dean Lyons. They’ll be looking to improve on a 4-18 record from a season ago. Coach Lyons told Raccoon Valley Radio he’s coached the current seniors since they were in fifth grade, and he’s looking for that group to lead the way to an improved season.

The Greene County boys are coached by former Ram Chris Nelson. Trey Tucker, the all-time leading career scorer for a Jefferson-based boys’ basketball program, graduated last May, but quite a bit of experience returns from the 14-8 team of a season ago.
