The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The meeting started an hour earlier than normal so the Board had plenty of time to canvass the results from the recent city elections. The election results were confirmed for the mayor and city council elections, as well as for the local option sales tax measure in each community besides the contiguous Des Moines Metro area and Grimes. The canvass for those areas will be held Thursday morning in a special session.
Once the canvass concluded, the Supervisors went into a closed session to discuss the purchase of particular real estate. When the Board reconvened, they started a workshop on the space needs of several county departments. The workshop was interrupted by a timed item: a public hearing for the second reading of the pioneer cemetery ordinance. A representative of the Adams Township Board of Trustees wanted more clarification on the authority given to the Supervisors, which was answered by County Attorney Wayne Reisetter. When the hearing closed, the Board passed the second reading of the amended ordinance, and set the time and date for the third reading as November 21st at 9:15 a.m.
The space needs workshop then continued, though no decisions were made at the meeting. The Supervisors then approved the appointment of Bankers Trust as the paying agent, note registrar, and transfer agent for $8.2 million in general obligation capital loan notes, as well as $1.6 million in refunding loan notes. Next, they approved a contract of $186,200 with ABC Electrical Services for fiber installation to the new law enforcement center. Finally, the Board approved an appropriation amendment for the 2018 fiscal year, as well as the abatement of mobile home taxes.
