A major road artery through Greene County will be open tomorrow.
Iowa Department of Transportation Resident Construction Engineer Jenny Hoskins tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Highway 30 overpass bridge near Grand Junction will be open beginning at noon tomorrow.
The bridge was originally constructed in 1957 and reached the end of its lifespan. Public meetings were held at the DOT in February of 2014 to receive input from attendees about the plans, which also included installing the Lincoln Highway Association logo as part of the structure. Hoskins notes the logo is on each of the end posts of the bridge.
The bridge was widened from 28-feet to 44-feet with an additional ten-feet on each side for shoulders. Hoskins adds that will help with safety for motorists, snowplows and farm implements crossing the bridge.
The $7 million project also included replacing the West Beaver Creek Bridge with a box culvert. Hoskins appreciates everyone’s patience during the almost seven month project.
