Greene County High School senior Megan Durbin announced two weeks ago she’d made her college choice. Monday in the high school theater, Durbin made it official and signed a National Letter of Intent for track & field with Iowa State University. One of Iowa’s best female high jumpers, Durbin chose the Cyclones over a handful of other NCAA Division I programs. Her parents and Greene County school officials were on hand as she put pen to paper.

Chad Morton has been a teacher/coach here for 17 years. He is in his first season as the boys’ head track & field coach for the Rams. He’s also a track & field official and has worked numerous State Meets and Drake Relays, so he’s spent time with highly gifted athletes. Coach Morton commented about Durbin going to the Big 12, a Power 5 conference. “I think it’s great! A lot of hard work has gone into what she’s been able to accomplish. I think the Cyclones are going to better off with her. What a great kid to have on campus and to coach an athlete of her character. I only see good things for her at that level.”

Durbin is the first female in the six years of Greene County HS to get DI scholarship money for track & field. Scholarship funds in sports other than football and basketball are often divided between numerous athletes.
