Last season Charger senior Logan Scheuermann qualified for the state wrestling tournament. Scheuermann entered the tournament with an opening round victory over Central Springs’ Georden Perry before being knocked out in the 145 pound quarterfinals by Wilton’s Trey Brisker.
With Scheuermann’s absence after graduation, Head Coach Shawn Danker isn’t worried about finding individuals to step up. “We have some good kids waiting in the wings. We have some experience, with a lot of youth. We have a lot of guys that have been in the room, been in the process for a while. We also have some good freshmen coming up too.”
Danker specifically mentioned Easton Benson as one of three athletes who have the potential to step into that role as a consistently productive wrestler for the Chargers. Benson was a district qualifier last year, and was also the recipient of the Coaches Award for ranking in the top five in seven statistical categories. Danker also mentioned former state qualifier Blaine Beeler and three-time district qualifier Zachary Fees. The Chargers hit the mats Thursday, November 30th at East Union to open the season.
