A Wednesday morning fire destroys a house in northern Greene County.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office and the Paton and Grand Junction Fire departments responded to the fire at 9:23am at 1847 130th Street, west of Paton. Jefferson, Churdan and Gowrie Fire departments were soon dispatched to assist.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the fire originated in the attached garage of the ranch-style home. He says the suspected cause was a heat lamp that may have been knocked over. One person was inside the home at the time of the fire and was able to get out safely. She was treated for smoke inhalation. The home was a total loss, along with one vehicle. Williams adds that Red Cross was contacted to help the family.

According to the Greene County Assessor’s real estate website, the home belongs to Mark Fredrickson.

Greene County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
