The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
The Board received a settlement of $21,551.95 from Two Rivers Insurance. The settlement is in response to an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division this past spring, which concluded that Two Rivers was responsible for inflating premiums on coverage to account for company compensation. Though Two Rivers claims their past practices are legal, they agreed to pay over one million dollars to Iowa city and county governments. The Board will review where the funds should be used at the meeting on November 21st.
The Board then agreed to purchase a truck from the Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency for $1,000. The Board will look at possibly repairing the truck and using it in another department. The repairs will cost between $6,000-$8,000. The Board was also notified that Avesis Incorporated has obtained a new underwriter for the vision benefit plan affecting county employees. However, there will be no premium increases. The plan is an opt-in for employees and the county does not contribute at this time.
The Board concluded the meeting by approving a telephone line for the Coordinator of Disability Services, and appointing Sandi Lee and reappointing Lyle Laughery to the Compensation Board. The Board will meet tomorrow to discuss the Transfer Station Action Plan with Station Director Jotham Arber.
