highway 30 bridge 10_12 pic 1A targeted completion date has been set for a major bridge project in Greene County.

Iowa Department of Transportation Resident Construction Engineer Jenny Hoskins tells Raccoon Valley Radio the completion date for the Highway 30 overpass bridge near Grand Junction is November 15th. That is also an incentive date for the contractor Godbersen-Smith to have the bridge completed ahead of the late finish date of November 22nd.

Work that has been done on the bridge includes: widening it from 28-feet to 44-feet with an additional 10-feet for shoulders and either side, installing square support tiers instead of circular tiers and installing the Lincoln Highway Association emblem on all four end posts of the bridge. The project also includes replacing the West Beaver Creek bridge, next to the overpass bridge, with a culvert.

Hoskins notes that when the bridge is ready to be open to the public, crews will remove the barricades to the bridge and then remove all detour signs on the route. She thanks everyone for their patience and is relieved to have the end be so close. Hoskins points out that the portion of 222nd Street under the bridge will remain closed for a few weeks so that all equipment is removed and repairs to the road can be made.

The bridge has been closed since April 25th. Both projects cost over $7 million.
