One of Iowa high school’s top female high jumpers is Megan Durbin of Jefferson. The Greene County High School senior announced her choice of colleges last week– she’ll be attending Iowa State University and is expected to sign a Letter of Intent during the Nov. 8-15 Early Signing Period.
Durbin knows being a Division I athlete and concentrating on one sport will be quite a change from high school where she has been an all-conference performer in volleyball and softball, in addition to excelling in the high jump. “We practice pretty much all year round. We start practicing right after Labor Day, then jump into meets in December, and that goes into March. The outdoor season starts in March and goes into June. So, I’ll be going nearly all year ’round and it’ll be a lot of work, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
She’s been a State Champion and Drake Relays Champion, as well as a Drake Relays runner-up, and twice a State Meet runner-up in Class 3A. She’s one of those rare high school girls that has jumped as high as she is tall (5′ 8″), which is a height that placed both indoors and outdoors at the 2017 Big 12 Conference meets.
