74024_147916465254744_4165227_nThe Boys and Girls Club of Central-Southwest Iowa in Adair recently applied for two grants to upgrade their library/media center. The first grant would provide flexible seating for the space. Recently the club began the process of increasing that flexibility by installing a standing station, giving kids who prefer to stand and move when doing homework an opportunity to achieve at a higher level.

Club Director Lynn Hansen is extremely excited about the upgrade and is hoping the proposed grants will help continue the process. “Right now we have our general desk space. It’s a conference room table with chairs seated around it, where kids come in and sit and do their homework. With the proposed grant, it will give our members a lot more variety in choosing where they get to sit, choosing where they get to learn so that they feel comfortable. It really just provides them with best space for them to learn the best that they can.”

The club has also applied for a grant to implement new tablets and computers in the same space. The club currently serves about 45 kids during the school year. To hear more from Hansen, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County Program.
