This week we’ve been reviewing the season ending stats for the Charger offense and defense. Today we’ll conclude our review with special teams.
A committee of Chargers took the kickoff responsibilities this season. Four different Chargers filled the role, primarily sophomore Quynton Younker who kicked off ten times. Collin Stowe, Nate Schiller, and Gage Butler also completed at least one kickoff. Junior Will Byars controlled all other kicks. Byars connected on all four extra points and completed one of two field goal attempts for 28 yards.
Two Chargers were in the top three in the district in longest punt. Senior Logan Brincks ended the season with a district best 67 yard punt. Byars also netted a punt of 63 yards, good enough for third best in the district. Senior Caden Wardyn took the primary return responsibilities this season, including an electrifying 85 yard punt return touchdown against West Central Valley. Wardyn finished the season averaging nearly 26 yards per kick return and 20 yards per punt return.
The Chargers finished the season last in total offense in District 1A 7 with 1,331 total yards. ACGC finished last in rushing and second to last in passing, only ahead of Tri Center. On the defensive side, the Chargers finished sixth in tackles, third in sacks, seventh in interceptions, and third in fumble recoveries.
