A spot in next week’s state volleyball tournament is on the line tonight for one Dallas County high school.The Class 2A Region 3 championship match pits the Woodward-Granger Lady Hawks (25-13) against the No. 4 Council Bluffs St. Albert Falcons (26-3). The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has moved the regional championship match from Underwood High School to Atlantic.

The Lady Hawks have dropped one game this playoff season on their way to the regional championship. Their postseason run began October 17 with a three-set victory over Ogden in Woodward (25-15, 25-18, 25-12). Woodward-Granger recorded the bracket’s top upset on October 23 in Neola, beating No. 8 Tri-Center (27-3) in four games (21-25, 25-23, 29-27, 27-25). The semifinal round saw the Lady Hawks top Fort Dodge St. Edmond in straight sets (25-17, 25-18, 25-18) at Boone High School on October 26.

The Falcons have won 24 of their 27 matches this fall. Their three losses have come against ranked teams from higher classes including Class 3A No. 2 Kuemper Catholic, Class 4A No. 4 Sergeant Bluff-Luton, and Class 4A No. 15 Harlan. A trip to Cedar Rapids is on the line in Atlantic tonight as Woodward-Granger battles No. 4 Council Bluffs St. Albert with the first serve set for 7 p.m.
