Jefferson resident Matt Gordon is running for one of three available at-large city council seats in next week’s election.
He is the director at The Gardens Assisted Living in Jefferson. He was a firefighter with the Grand Junction Fire Department for five years before moving to Jefferson. He is also a member of the the Greene Group. Gordon says the topic issues he would like to address if elected to the council are: improving the City’s infrastructure with water and sewer, along with making improvements for the jail system and local fire department. He also sees economic development as a top issue.
“Brining in some more jobs. Jobs that pay well and possibly full-time jobs that pay well. We have a definite need for in this community for full-time work that pays well. And that goes hand-in-hand with the housing issue. We’ve got to have the jobs to pay for people living in these housing units that we want to build.”
He says he’s running for city council because he believes he’s heavily invested in the community he was born in, with a wife and four kids.
“I would like Jefferson to be a place where my kids can graduate, go to college, and then come back to this small community and raise a family because there are the opportunities, the jobs, to want to raise a family in.”
Gordon is one of three candidates running for the three available at-large seats on November 7th’s election.
