Tonight is Halloween and kids throughout Guthrie County will embark on the annual quest for candy. Both Stuart and Guthrie Center will hold their Beggars Night’s starting at 5 pm. Kids will be able to trick-or-treat around downtown until 6:30 in Stuart and 6 in Guthrie Center, with the rest of the community participating until 8 pm. It’s important to stay safe during the night’s journey for sweets.
Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Bennett gives some advice on Halloween safety. “We want to take the time to remind them to drive slow and be thinking ahead, watching for young kids that are excited and (could) be running around. Parents can give (kids) a flashlight or walk with younger children to make sure they get to their location safely.”
Kids and parents should avoid homes with outside lights turned off and can place reflective objects on costumes to increase safety. Participants should plan a route in advance and wear appropriate footwear and clothing. It’s also strongly recommended that houses participating in the evening’s festivities remove items from driveways, yards, or sidewalks that could obstruct or impair those going from door to door.
