Confidence, communication, and a positive attitude are widely considered qualities found in a good leader. Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers senior Sami Schepers displayed all of these traits and more this fall for her school’s volleyball program. Schepers, a three-year varsity starter, continued being the Tigers top offensive player with a career-best 353 kills this fall. She also became the squad’s voice on the floor, often begin referred to by her peers and coaches as the boss.
ADM head volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott says Schepers is a player who not only made a significant impact with her skills but also how she helped other players. “The other players are just as important to us, but for Sami to take that role on and to be vocal and to support everyone is a key part of our success.” Scott said, “I had refs talking to me about her, I’ve had (opposing) coaches talk to me about how great it was to see her on the court take ownership of the team.”
Schepers was one of six seniors who led ADM to a 23-12 overall record and a share of the Raccoon River Conference championship. ADM’s season ended in the regional semifinals last Tuesday in Glenwood, falling to the Rams in five games (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 14-25, 12-25).
