History was made by the Panorama girls cross country team Saturday in Fort Dodge. The Panthers represented Guthrie County at the 2017 Iowa State Girls Cross Country Meet at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. Panorama came away with a program-best second place finish with 115 points. Hudson is the 2017 Class 1A girls champions with a low score of 104.
Ella Waddle highlights the Panthers individual finishers with a sixth-place finish at state, clocking a race time of 19:32. Head coach Greg Thompson says Waddle’s placing at state is the highest of any runner he’s ever coached. Devyn Kemble closed her high school cross country career in 31st place with a time of 20:45. Other Panther finishers include Gwen Steffen 52nd (21:16), Olivia Steffen 55th (21:21), and Brianna Hoffman 87th (22:03). Thompson says this could be the start of something special. “This is school history, the highest finish in any sport,” Thompson said, “With our incoming eighth graders coming in, the future is pretty bright.”
Josh Carstens closed the book on his high school cross country career in the Class 1A Boys State Cross Country race. He placed 21st overall with a time of 17:05.
