The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.
County Transfer Station Executive Director Jotham Arber and Administrator Joyce Miller addressed the Board on disposal procedures for large items. Arber informed the Board that Guthrie is the only county in the state of Iowa that does not charge for disposal of freon bearing appliances. The Board approved a $15 charge per freon-bearing appliance starting November 1st. Arber and Miller also requested a fence around the appliance section of the station, which the Board approved.
Arber also referenced the inefficiency of tire disposal at the station. The station has recently experienced an overwhelming amount of tires in a short amount of time. The station is currently finding it difficult to store tires when businesses dispose of 60-80 at one time. The Board approved an additional $25 convenience fee for loads including ten or more tires, which does not include the standard per tire fee. The additional fee will also go into effect on November 1st and the collected fees may be used to upgrade future storage capacity.
Finally, the Board reviewed Diamondhead Lake outlet pond negotiations, minor road construction near Bagley, and procedures for Thursday meeting times.
