Next week FFA chapters across the country will convene in Indianapolis for the 90th annual National FFA Convention. The theme for this year’s convention is “I Can. We Will”. West Central Valley, Panorama, and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center will all send students to the convention.
The five-day convention starts Tuesday and gives FFA members a chance to meet other chapters from around the country, view exhibits, and take part in informational sessions. Students also take part in various speaking, talent, and agricultural based competitions as well as service opportunities.
West Central Valley Senior Haylee Miller shares her favorite part of going on a previous convention. “My highlight of conventions is the starting sessions. They always have fire and cool laser shows, and the energy is just insane in the coliseum. It’s just awesome.”
Boxer Laila Ali is this year’s keynote speaker and Rascal Flatts will perform at Lucas Oil Stadium. Each school also has an American Degree Award winner, the highest honor in FFA. Guthrie Center’s Wade Umbaugh, West Central Valley’s Morgan Smith, and Panorama’s Adam William Hackfort will all receive the award.
