We’ll see a familiar team in next Saturday’s Class 1A Girls State Cross Country meet.The Panorama Panthers boys and girls cross country teams visited the Mount Ayr Golf Course Thursday for the state qualifying meet. The race featured runners from 29 regional schools including West Central Activities Conference members Earlham, West Central Valley, and Woodward-Granger. The top 15 individual runners and the three lowest scoring teams advance to next Saturday’s Class 1A State Meet in Fort Dodge.
The Panorama Panthers girls cross country team has once again qualified for the state cross country meet, winning the state qualifying race with the low score of 32. Five Panthers qualified for the state meet as individuals. They include: freshman Ella Waddle (second; 20:09), senior Devyn Kemble (sixth; 21:21), Gwen Steffen (seventh; 21:26), senior Brianna Hoffman (eighth; 21:54), and Olivia Steffen (ninth; 22:01). The Panther boys squad, a 2016 state qualifier, won’t be making a return trip to Fort Dodge after placing fourth in the team standings with 136 points. Earlham was third in the team standings with 122. Senior Josh Carstens will represent the Panther boys at state after finishing seventh overall at 17:39.
The 2017 Class 1A Girls State Cross Country meet starts at 2 p.m., and the boys follow at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday, October 28 at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
