
The season will continue for one more week for multiple runners on the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers cross country teams. The Tigers boys and girls squads spent Thursday running in the Class 3A state qualifying race at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club. The meet featured runners from 12 regional schools including Raccoon River Conference members Ballard, Bondurant-Farrar, Boone, Carlisle, Perry, and Winterset. The top 15 individuals and the three lowest scoring teams qualify for next Saturday’s state meet in Fort Dodge.
The No. 13 ADM boys cross country team will compete for a state title next weekend after finishing third in the team standings with 78 points. Conference schools Carlisle and Bondurant-Farrar will join the Tigers at state after placing first and second place respectively. Freshman Nate Mueller’s postseason success continued as he was the top finisher at the state qualifying meet, clocking a time of 16:32. The result was nearly 30 seconds faster than the field. Freshman Ethan Jurgens came in fourth overall at 17:07. Senior Rylan Heffernan also qualified for the state meet as an individual with a 15th place finish in 17:45.
The ADM girls cross country team is sending one runner to the state meet. Junior Sadie Jurgens is making a return trip to Fort Dodge after a sixth-place result in 20:25. The next best ADM finisher was freshman Hannah Welch in 31st place at 22:18. The Tigers placed seventh in the team standings with 181 points.
The 2017 Class 3A Girls State Cross Country meet starts at 12 p.m., and the boys follow at 12:30 p.m. next Saturday, October 28 at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
