IMG_1564It’s fitting for a school with yellow as a school color to “Follow the Yellow Brick Road”. Next month, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School will perform The Wizard of Oz for its fall musical. The shows are scheduled for Saturday November 11th at 7 pm and Sunday November 12th 2 pm.

Audrey Stowe will play the role of Dorothy and will be accompanied by a live dog playing Toto. The Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion will be played by Matthew Hanner, Daniel Jayne, and Collin Stowe respectively. A total of 65 students are part of this year’s production.

AC/GC was also recently selected to participate in the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards next June. The show is one of 67 that will be critiqued by a panel of judges and is sponsored by Des Moines Performing Arts. AC/GC Vocal Director Kelsey Moran believes her students are up for the challenge. “It’s just something that will make us better and I think it puts a little spark into our kids and tells them we are good enough to go up against schools in the big metro area.”

Moran equates this ceremony to the Tony Awards for Iowa high school students.
