Before tomorrow’s postseason opener, the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers volleyball team (22-11 overall) ranks in the top 10 in Class 4A in ace serves. An ace consists of a serve which lands in the opponent’s court without being touched or is unable to be kept in play by an opposing player. ADM has recorded 186 aces through 33 matches this season, ranking them seventh in Class 4A. Amy Gottschalk leads the entire Raccoon River Conference with 52 aces this season.

ADM head volleyball coach Mary Beth Scott says getting points from the service line has been big for the team this season. “We got up against teams, and we are messing with their serve receive.” Scott said, “When you start to mess with someone’s serve receive, that affects their setting, that affects their hitting, and it changes the whole dynamics of the game. I always tell the girls, ‘you can watch them in warmups and they can be crushing the ball, but what happens when they have to pass the ball.’ For use to be aggressive serves does help our game.”

ADM starts their playoff run in the Class 4A Region 2 bracket tomorrow night versus the Boone Toreadors (17-20 overall). ADM’s defeated Boone in two separate meetings this fall, including winning their Raccoon River Conference match on October 3 in Boone in four sets (25-15, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20).
