stuart cityThe Stuart City Council will meet in a special session tonight.

The Council will examine Karl Chevrolet’s future expansion plans in Stuart. The dealership hopes to eventually become a full service dealership for the Stuart community. This would include a mechanic shop and repair center.

Depot Committee Member Doris Bench will then address the Council regarding the ultimate purpose of the Depot. At last week’s regular Council meeting, Bench urged the Board not to turn the Depot into an entity focused on turning a profit. Bench would like to see the Depot remain a public community center. The White Pole Road Development Corporation and Project Restore, two non-profit organizations who have plans to turn the Depot into a welcome center and rental space, expressed interest in working with Bench to find the best solution for the property.

The Stuart Volunteer Fire Department will then give an update on the status of the 2013 Spartan Fire Apparatus repair. The Council will conclude the meeting by continuing their discussion on new bond agreements. The Council approved the bond agreements at last month’s special session, but a petition from a local resident has delayed the formal acceptance of the agreements.

The meeting begins at 6:30 pm in Stuart City Hall.
