Panorama sophomore Luke South did something Friday night that no Class 1A District 6 football team has done in over a month, score a touchdown against the Van Meter Bulldogs. The Bulldogs, Radio Iowa’s No. 3 ranked team, came into their week eight matchup posting four straight shutouts and allowing nine total points in six weeks.
Van Meter jumped out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs were in Panther territory again in the second quarter before fumbling the football. South picked the ball up and ran it 61 yards for a touchdown, ending the Bulldogs shutout streak at 17 quarters. South helped the Panthers find the end zone again in the fourth quarter, connecting with Spencer Hunt for a 28-yard touchdown reception. The Bulldogs amassed 436 yards of total offense in a 55-14 win.
The loss is the fourth straight for Panorama, dropping the Panthers overall record to 3-5. The Panthers season concludes at home this week in a rivalry matchup versus the West Central Valley Wildcats (2-6). The Wildcats lost Friday night versus the South Hamilton Hawks (7-1), 52-6.
