There’s lots to do at the 35th annual Fall Festival at Deal’s Orchard today and tomorrow.
Everyone can take advantage of the free hayrack rides around the orchard and enjoy free musical entertainment with Iowa State Fair champion fiddler David Bellegante. There will also be samples of donuts and a live demonstration of cider pressing today.
Apple Acres offers lots for the whole family including a jumping pillow, corn maze, corn box, hamster wheels, and duck races. Admission is $8 for kids, $6 for adults, and those two and under or 65 and older can get in for free. Plus, there will be facepainting, spin and sand art as well. The Jefferson Kiwanis Club will be grilling both days, Greene County FFA will sponsor a petting zoo and the local Boy Scouts will host their haunted cave.
Co-Owner Gerald Deal says the corn maze has a different look to it this year. A new pedestrian tunnel was installed under the main gravel road, so that participants in the Apple Acres could walk under the road to the corn maze. And with Deal’s Orchard celebrating their 100th year this year, Gerald says the corn maze theme is “Century Farm 2017.” He adds that it’s a privilege for his family’s farm to be recognized as a century farm.
