A Panorama freshman is this year’s West Central Activities Conference varsity girls cross country champion. Ella Waddle, Iowa Association of Track Coaches No. 4 runner in Class 1A, won Thursday’s conference race at the Lake Panorama Par 3 Golf Course in Panora. Her time of 19:41 was a lifetime best mark, and was 28 seconds better than AC/GC sophomore Kate Crawford, the IATC’s No. 4 runner in Class 1A.

Waddle was one of four Panthers who earned a spot on this year’s all-conference team by placing in the top 10 of the varsity girls race. The others are Devyn Kemble (third; 20:54), Gwen Steffen (fifth; 21:26), Brianna Hoffman (seventh; 21:49). Panorama won the conference team title as well with 27 points. Josh Carstens was Panorama’s lone all-conference runner in the boys’ race, clocking a time of 17:54, the meet’s fifth-best time.

The Panorama Panthers boys and girls cross country teams are gearing up for their state qualifying race Thursday in Mount Ayr. The top 15 individual finishers and the top three teams will advance to the Class 1A State Cross Country Meet October 28 in Fort Dodge.
